Dixon School Awarded $5,000 Education Grant

A Dixon school is one of dozens in the Bay Area that will be able to fund new educational programs thanks to a grant.

DIXON, CA — A Dixon school is one of dozens in the Bay Area awarded a combined $100,000 in grants to fund programs ranging from musical instruments to Korean language classes to Chromebook laptops for students to use in classrooms.

Gretchen Higgins Elementary in Dixon will use its $5,000 grant to buy sports equipment and provide more games and activities.

The grants, presented on Dec. 12 to students and teachers, were given out as part of the Wells Fargo KNBR Step Up to the Plate program, which has granted more than $1.3 million over the last 18 years.

Brandon Crawford, shortstop for the San Francisco Giants, helped present the combined $100,000 in grants to 32 Bay Area schools.
