El Cerrito Considers Countywide Taxi Licensing
Current regulations require taxicabs to apply for a permit in each city they pick up passengers from.

EL CERRITO, CA — City officials are considering a collaboration with other Contra Costa communities to form a countywide regulation of taxicab services, according to Mercury News.
Mercury News reports that current regulations require cab companies to obtain a permit from each city that they pick up passengers from. A joint powers authority would eliminate the need for cab companies to apply with each city.
El Cerrito currently charges $245 for a permit to pick up clients within the city, which typically covers one driver and one car, adding up to $10,000 per year in licensing fees and $3,000 in business taxes. These would reportedly see a decrease with a joint system.
