Driver Killed In Fiery, Early-Morning I-80 Crash

The crash at 3:20 a.m. near Vacaville left a car fully engulfed in flames, CHP reported.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A driver killed early Wednesday morning in a solo-vehicle traffic crash on the off-ramp of eastbound Interstate Highway 80 at Leisure Town Road in Vacaville has been identified by the Solano County Coroner's Office as Steven Velasquez, 28, of Mesa, Arizona.

The CHP said Velasquez was driving a 2014 gray Infiniti Q50 at a high rate of speed when he exited via the Leisure Town Road off ramp and collided with a concrete barrier wall on the north side of the road.

The car caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames in the crash originally reported around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.

"The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle," said CHP Solano Area Officer David Harvey.

The coroner's office reported Velasquez's city of residence as Mesa, Arizona; CHP reported he was also from Apple Valley in Southern California.

CHP is still investigating the crash but believes alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The Leisure Town Road off- and on-ramps were shut down because of the crash.
