SOLANO COUNTY, CA — All lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 80 have reopened following a crash involving a big-rig hauling a slew of crushed cars. The big-rig overturned at about 2:47 p.m. Thursday near the Pena Adobe Road off-ramp in Fairfield, with all lanes initially blocked by the incident, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Sig-alert was put in place at 3 p.m.; with all four lanes blocked, westbound traffic was diverted onto Cherry Glen Road.

CHP Officer Dave Harvey said 15-20 crushed cars needed to be cleared from the freeway.

Four vehicles that initially were reported to be involved in a collision were actually vehicles that had already been crushed in a compactor and loaded onto the big-rig, CHP officials said.

The driver of the big-rig was able to escape by breaking a window, according to the CHP.

Editor's Note: Previous versions of this story incorrectly said the overturned big-rig was in Vacaville just east of Pena Adobe Road because of a mistake by the California Highway Patrol. The big-rig overturned between Manuel Campos Parkway and Pena Adobe Road in Fairfield. Also because of an error by the CHP, an earlier version of this story said traffic was diverted off at Lagoon Valley. Traffic was diverted off at Cherry Glen Road. The story now has the correct information.
