Solano Co. Nurses, Social Workers On 1-Day Strike
BREAKING: The union claims the county's response to fires in the North Bay was chaotic and highlighted the county's understaffing.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Solano County nurses and social workers are staging a one-day strike and protest at the county Board of Supervisors meeting today. Members of Service Employees International Union Local 1021 have filed an unfair labor practice charge against the county, which they say is not bargaining in good faith and is delaying negotiations.
Emergency responders and other Solano County workers necessary for emergency relief will remain at work today, union officials said.
The union claims the county's response to fires in the North Bay was chaotic and highlighted the understaffing in the county's Department of Health and Social Services.

Union officials said filling open positions is needed to reduce wait times and improve services to the public.
Vacant positions are well over 10 percent and higher in some county departments, according to the union.

The county has saved $14 million by maintaining a high number of vacant positions and is not using the savings to increase staffing, according to the union.
Negotiations with the county have been underway since June.
