Solano County Barbershop Reopens, Violating Stay-Home Order

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The city of Vacaville served a cease-and-desist order to a barbershop that reopened for customers this week, in violation of local and statewide stay-home orders in response to the coronavirus crisis.

Primo's Barbershop, which closed for several weeks, reopened Friday and has already seen a "great turnout" of customers, owner Juan Desmarais told the San Francisco Chronicle.

City officials, who had tried multiple times to convince Desmarais not to reopen, have now warned Desmarais that he could be arrested, face a fine of up to $1,000 or be imprisoned for up to six months, the Daily Republic reported.

The Solano County order, currently in place through May 17, prohibits nonessential businesses, including barbershops, to serve customers.

Desmarais, who said he feared it would take months more for the government to allow him to reopen, said he is prepared to be cited and plans to fight any charges in court.
