Baja Comic Con, Neighborhood 'Elephant,' Noah's Jurassic Ark

A perfect-storm countdown to the weekend.

1. Comic con in Baja California

Fancy a road—or air—trip to Baja California, this coming Saturday to attend a comic convention stemming from a binational partnership between the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock and the Inter-Media Arts Center? The two organizations are behind BorderComics 2013, a forum for youth in Tijuana to explore the creative process of comic art development and production in a creative and cultural environment enriched by the presence of Tijuana and L.A.-based comic artists. The Aug. 10 event is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Antiguo Palacio Municipal, Zona Centro, 22000 Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. For details, contact the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock, at (323) 226-1617.

2. 'Elephant' in the neighborhood

Have you checked out Eagle Rock's latest yoga studio that also doubles as the neighborhood's first ayurvedic clinic? Elephant Ayurveda and Wellness Center, a new store devoted to the teaching of various styles of yoga as well as the practice of the ancient Indian medicine called Ayurveda, opened Wednesday on 1615 Colorado Blvd., next door to Comics vs. Toys and directly opposite Townsend Avenue. Click here to read more.

3. Oxy Children's Theater performs Noah's Jurassic Ark

The acclaimed Occidental Children’s Theater is celebrating its 18th year with a new performance, Noah's Jurassic Ark, and three adventurous adaptations of traditional folktales in the outdoor Remsen Bird Hillside Theater on the Oxy campus. Performances run through Aug. 24 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. Click here to purchase tickets. For groups of 15 or more, e-mail theater@oxy.edu or call (323) 259-2771.
