UPDATE: Eagle Rock Brush Fire Burns 30 Acres, Closes Hwy Lanes

A fire that broke out around 4 p.m. Sunday burned about 30 acres in LA and Glendale and resulted in partial closures of 2 freeways.

EAGLE ROCK, LOS ANGELES -- A brush fire that started in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles and moved into the City of Glendale burned about 30 acres before it was contained Sunday evening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Dept.

As of 8:46 p.m., the blaze was 25% contained, according to the LAFD. There are no evacuation orders for the city of Los Angeles, but are within the City of Glendale. The evacuation orders are for both sides of Glenoaks Canyon and all arterial streets, as well as Mount Carmel Drive and Bywood Drive. An evacuation center at the Glendale Civic Auditorium is expected to remain open until 10 p.m., according to the Glendale Fire Dept.

There were no structures damaged and no injuries reported. Freeway closures remain in effect for an undetermined period and CHP is the point of contact for all traffic updates. The LAFD has transitioned command of the incident to Glendale Fire, but LAFD is expected to continue to have resources on scene throughout the night assisting with mop up operations and fire watch to ensure no flare ups take hold.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

EAGLE ROCK, CA -- A brush fired that originated on or near the 2900 block of Colorado Boulevard has resulted in at least five acres being burned at the partial closures of two area freeways, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was spotted across to the north of the 134 Freeway and is slowly backing up hill, according to the LAFD. Three fire department helicopters are conducting continuous water drops.

Firefighters are making good progress against the left flank of the fire with additional resources committing to the right flank, the fire department said in a statement. There are not currently any evacuations in place nor a defined number of homes threatened.

Over 143 LAFD firefighters on scene. In addition to LA Fire, Glendale and LA County Fire both have resources on scene.

The Venture (134) Freeway is closed westbound at Figueroa Street and eastbound at Glendale Avenue. State Route (SR) 2 is closed southbound between Colorado Boulevard and Mountain Street.
