Knap In and Paleo Tools weekend at Chilao School
Wooden bows and arrows, food and laughter mingle with the sound of striking stone in the Angeles National Forest
The clink clink of stone shards is like music. The sky is blue and the mood is festive as traditional tool makers, their children, and the curious gather to enjoy a weekend in the Angeles National Forest.
Everyone is welcome; guests may bring food to share for the potluck style meals. This year, wood workers making traditional bows and arrows are also joining the fray. This is the second annual flintknapper's gathering at Chilao School.
Visitors are welcome - to reach the school from the La Canada/Los Angeles/San Fernando area, take the 210 freeway to Angeles Crest Highway/Highway 2 in La Canada. Proceed north (up the mountain) 26 miles to Chilao Campground. Turn left into the campground and follow red and white hand painted signs that say "Redbird" and "Chilao School".
