Los Angeles Falls 1 Spot In Annual Best Cities Rankings

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles has fallen one spot -- from sixth to seventh -- in the annual ranking of best cities in the world, according to A.T. Kearney, a management consulting company that performs the rankings annually.

A.T. Kearney's rankings of 130 major cities across the globe is based on economic and demographic trends, such as business activity, culture, political engagement and access to information and technology.

L.A. swapped places with Singapore, which rose from seventh in last year's poll to sixth this year. Los Angeles was ranked no. 6 on the list from 2012-2018 before falling one spot this year.

Los Angeles remains the second-highest ranked North American city however, behind New York City, which has remained at no. 1 overall for 10 years. Behind L.A. on the list are Chicago at no. 8 and Washington, DC at no. 10. No other U.S. cities cracked the top 20, but Canada's busiest city, Toronto is at no. 17, and Boston is ranked 21st, just ahead of San Francisco at no. 22.

"Overall, the results offer a powerful message to leading and emerging cities alike: Don’t get too comfortable," the A.T. Kearney report states. "The leading cities cannot take anything for granted as challenger cities are redoubling their efforts to improve. The next generation of global hubs is already fighting for talent, innovation, and direct investment—and if top-tier cities lose their momentum, these growing cities are more than ready to take their place."
