Media Muses on Rustic American Fare at Little Beast

The Colorado Boulevard restaurant is said to put a "sophisticated spin on comfort food" for "the kinds of customers who might appreciate a little burrata with their peaches."

Since Little Beast found a permanent home on the eastern edge of Eagle Rock exactly two months ago today, Wednesday, the American rustic food restaurant has been getting a fair amount of press.

On Monday, Eagle Rock resident Valentina Silva wrote an article in Eastsider L.A., describing the Little Beast as a former pop-up restaurant at ER’s own Le Petit Beaujolais that “puts a sophisticated spin on comfort food.” The restaurant offers the kind of fare that is “a pretty common find Mid-City and on the Westside but harder to get in our neck of the woods,” Silva wrote.

The latest publication to give Little Beast a much-deserved media boost is L.A. Weekly, which features a full-fledged slideshow of the “modern soul food” served at the 1496 Colorado Blvd. restaurant. The Weekly article starts out by declaring somewhat condescendingly that Little Beast’s mission is to “serve the kinds of customers who might appreciate a little burrata with their peaches”—as if all those Auntie Em’s customers are now ready to tackle a menu “full of recognizable standards taken up a notch or two,” to quote the Eastsider’s Silva.

And at least some Patch readers might be further tickled by the Weekly’s insight that “because Eagle Rock’s demographic over recent years has grown to include a fair number of young professional families and older artist types, there’s plenty of demand for just such a place.”
