Police Shooting At Eagle Rock Target Store Closes Colorado Blvd

EAGLE ROCK, CA — An officer fired shots at a man who took off after allegedly trying to snatch someone's cell phone Wednesday outside a shopping center in Eagle Rock, but no one was struck and the suspect was later taken into custody.

An officer responded about 1:50 p.m. to the reported robbery attempt at Eagle Rock Plaza in the 2600 block of Colorado Boulevard, according to Sgt. Dan Suttles of the Glendale Police Department.

The call came from the California Highway Patrol, which contacted Glendale police because the location was right on the border with Los Angeles, Suttles said.

When the officer got to the location, a witness pointed out the suspect and a foot pursuit ensued, he said.

The suspect managed to get into a car, start it and begin driving. The officer fired four shots at the suspect, whose car was later found abandoned on the York Boulevard off-ramp from the Glendale (2) Freeway, according to Suttles.

Police began getting reports of a man fleeing on foot through the area and a family member of the suspect, who's in his early to mid-20s, eventually called police to report that a relative had arrived home and said he had been shot at by police.

Officers went to the home in the 1400 block of Trent Way and negotiated the surrender of the suspect, who was booked on suspicion of robbery. His name was not immediately released.

Nearby streets and the Colorado Boulevard off-ramp from the northbound Glendale Freeway were closed while police investigated.
