Relay for Life, American Cancer Society is embracing all of Northeast LA! Join Us!

Community effort to support the fight back against cancer.

Sadly, just about everyone knows someone who has battled or is battling cancer. It's no longer an anomaly. Cancer will effect 1 in 3 Californians this year alone. But do not feel helpless. Do something about it!

Help support the American Cancer Society (ACS) by participating in a community driven event whose primary mission revolves around four goals. ACS, next to the federal government, has provided the necessary funds for state of the art research that is combatting cancer with increasing success each year. Over 40 scientists, sponsored by ACS, have gone on to become nobel laureates because of their effort in fighting to erradicate this disease through their research. ACS also tries to ease the everyday battle of patients and families in therapies by providing volunteer transportation services for those needing help to reach their medical appointments and therapies. The necessary medical care can sometimes be more than a car drive away, and ACS is there to sponsor families in need of housing near a facility. Further, the old saying "when you look good, you feel good," has proven to be true, and so ACS focuses on patients being able to achieve this to lift their spirits. And finally, ACS strives to educate people and entire communities about cancer, treatments, and most important, prevention strategies to live the healthiest life possible.

But, like many things in this world, great success if often achieved with necessary funding. And so ACS relies on the largest fundraising event world-wide: Relay for Life, a community driven event that empowers people to fight back against cancer!

Relay for Life is back again in our community and is embracing all of Northeast LA. This fight back against cancer will take place on August 27 at the Los Angeles Little League Field at Garvanza Park. Start your teams and your fundraising now at www.relayforlife.org/eaglerockca. Teams will have members take turns walking a track for 12 hours to show solidarity with those who struggle with this disease. Teams are encouraged to camp out all day (imagine an urban "beachless" day) and participate by sponsoring a game or sale as an on-site fundraiser. Neighborhood talent is encouraged to volunteer a performance to entertain the community. We need helping hands to plan, please choose to do something about cancer and join us in this powerful event.
