East Palo Alto Gas Leak Fixed After Construction Crew Hits Line

PG&E officials responded to the pipe break.

EAST PALO ALTO, CA — Authorities from PG&E stopped natural gas flowing from a broken pipe Thursday afternoon in East Palo Alto and police said no injuries were reported due to the leak.

PG&E officials responded to the pipe break at 10:15 a.m. at Clark Avenue near East Bayshore Road.

Spokeswoman Andrea Menniti said a construction crew hit a 2-inch gas line with a backhoe, breaking the pipe.PG&E crews were able to repair the gas line by 12:08 p.m., according to Menniti.

East Palo Alto police Sgt. Rod Tuason said no injuries were reported and there is no threat to the public.

Crews remained at the scene Thursday to repair the pipe. PG&E will conduct an investigation to determine whether the construction crew called authorities at 811 to map out pipes before beginning work, Menniti said.
