East Palo Alto Rape-Attempt Suspect Nabbed

The local suspect, who was identified as Rogelio Artiga, 19, was arrested in Menlo Park and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

MENLO PARK, CA -- Police arrested an East Palo Alto man on attempted rape charges minutes after the 33-year-old victim in the vicinity of Oak Court and Woodland Avenue fought back and broke free of the alleged attacker identified as Rogelio Artiga, 19.

He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail Monday afternoon on additional charges of sexual battery, kidnapping and preventing the use of a wireless device, Menlo Park police said.

The woman, who was walking in the vicinity, had no injuries to report. He ran down Oak Court headed toward Menalto Avenue.

Police believe the man was acting alone.
