Apartment Fire Claims Cat
Firefighters make quick work of Silver Lake blaze, but it's not quick enough for a feline fatality. The cause is still unknown.

Firefighters needed fewer than 20 minutes to extinguish a blaze Wednesday morning inside an apartment building in Silver Lake, authorities said.
The fire inside a four-plex at 3209 W. Descanso Dr., was reported at 6:24 a.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
The department dispatched 45 firefighters to the scene, she said. The fire was contained to one unit in the building.

A knockdown was declared at 6:43 a.m., Stewart added.
No people were injured but a cat died in the fire, Stewart said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
