Authorities ID Silver Lake Homicide Victim Killed with Hammer

Authorities today identified a homicide victim and the man who allegedly killed him with a hammer at the Silver Lake apartment complex construction site where they were working.

The attack occurred about 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the 4200 block of Burns Avenue.

Louis Sanchez, 20, of Los Angeles died at a hospital, the coroner's office reported. Christian Valdez, also 20, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

"They got into an altercation," LAPD Sgt. John Marroquin said. "One armed himself with a hammer and struck the other one."

The suspect fled the scene, but eventually was located by investigators, police said.
