Sneak Preview: Little Joy Bloody Maria

Owner Joaquin Reyna-Donaldson shares his recipe for the drink he expects to mix a lot starting at 9 p.m when the fabled bar reopens on Monday. Its secret ingredient was born in Silver Lake.

-Fill a 16-ounce pint-glass with ice

-Add 1 1/2 oucnes Hacienda Vieja Blanco Tequila

-Add 3 ounces tomato juice

-Add 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated horseradish

-Add 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce

-Add 3 dashes DoubleKick Hot Sauce (originated in Silver Lake, see below)

-Add 1/2 teaspoon pickled jalapeño juice

-Add pinch Kosher salt

-Add pinch freshly-ground black pepper

-Add generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice

-Add pinch celery salt

-Add olives, pickled jalapenos and peroncinis

-Add splash of Paradise Road Pilsner and a celery stalk to stir

The Hacienda Tequila can be replaced with any silver tequila you have around the house. The same goes for the Paradise Road Pilsner. Any light beer will work.

DoubleKick Hot Sauce was conceived in Silver Lake and is now made by a manufacturer in Ventura. The hot sauce is caffeinated and delicious. Its creator Ben Meyer is a good friend of Joaquin's, and Little Joy will be using this product in select drinks.
