DNC Schedule: California's Xavier Becerra to Speak at 5:45 pm PDT Tuesday

The representative from California's 31st congressional district is expected to close out the fourth hour of proceedings.

Two California congressional representatives will be in the spotlight Tuesday night when the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rep. Xavier Becerra, who represents California's 31st congressional district, is slated to close out the fourth hour of proceedings.

According to James Gleason, his press secretary, Becerra's remarks are expected to begin around 5:45 p.m. PDT.

Becerra, the vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, represents a district that ranges from through a number of communities east, west and south of Downtown Los Angeles.

It is one of the most diverse in California, and includes many Latinos.

Becerra  also gave a much-analyzed speech at the 2008 Democratic Convention, where he was highly critical of then president George W. Bush.

Another Californian, Barbara Lee, of the state's 9th congressional district, is also scheduled to speak in the event's second hour that begins at 3 p.m. PDT.

Other notable speakers expected Tuesday evening include Michele Obama, San Antonio Mayor Juan Castro, Newark Mayor Corey Booker, congressional candidate Joe Kennedy III and Illinois governor Pat Quinn.
