Dodgers Battle Their Way Back Into World Series

Clayton Kershaw plays relief to close out the Brewers 5 to 1, winning a second consecutive National League pennant.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The 5 to 1 final score doesn't reflect how tense the game was right up to the very end when Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts put in Clayton Kershaw to pitch the ninth inning Saturday. The move paid off, earning the Dodgers their second consecutive National League pennant.

The Dodgers will take on the league-leading Boston Red Sox in the World Series on Tuesday.

The Brewers opened the scoring with a first inning home run by Christian Yelich, but the Dodgers came right back in the second inning with a two-run homer by Cody Bellinger. Bellinger drove in Manny Machado, who bunted to get on base.

It was a three-run home run by Yasiel Puig at the top of sixth inning that gave the Dodgers a cushion and seemed to deflate the Brewers.

Though it's the second year in a row the Dodgers will play in the World Series, in many ways, it's a different team. The Dodgers of 2018 are a Cinderella team that started of the year with a 16-26 losing record. The Dodgers of 2018 are a team that has faced adversity. They will play a Boston Red Sox team that won 16 more games than the Dodgers this season.

"It's un unbelievable feeling to be standing here after everything we went through this year," said slugger Justin Turner. "We played with our back against the walls the entire season, and here we were again tonight in Game 7 with our back against the wall a mustin-win, obviously, and we found a way to get it done."

The Dodgers are a team of heavy hitters, who led the league in home runs during regular season play, and their hitters came through with key home runs Saturday..

"We all stick together. We never quit," added pitcher Kenley Jansen. "We all understand that we have one goal in mind, and we fell short last year, and we keep playing....Everybody had their fingerprints on this, and no one quit."
