Here's How The LA Homegirl Team Is Making Home Dreams Come True

The real estate professionals behind Keller Williams' LA Homegirl Team also explained the origins behind their unique name.

The LA Home Girl Team is a group of real estate professionals that focus primarily on the Eastside of Los Angeles. They work with both sellers and buyers and specialize in relationship building and property matchmaking.

Kenya Reeves-Costa, lead agent of the LA Home Girl Team, powered by Keller Williams, believes in creating a bond or a friendship with her clients, hence the name of her team. Patch caught up with Kenya to learn more about the rewarding career that is so dear to her heart and what's coming up next for her and her homegirls.

Reeves-Costa: Real estate is in my blood. My dad has always been an investor and he owned a mortgage brokerage for years. While attending university, I lived in and managed one of his buildings and made calls at night for the loan officers at his firm. I have a genuine love for people and I'm addicted to making miracles happen. I'm extremely competitive and obsessed with Los Angeles' landscape and architecture. This career combines all of my loves and wraps them into one neat package. I couldn't have dreamed up a better career.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Reeves-Costa: If I had to sum up my mission statement in five words: I'll go above and beyond.

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Reeves-Costa: Last year, I had the longest and most challenging deal of my career. We were selling a buyer's first home and facilitating the purchase of their forever home. The forever home had a challenging seller (represented by another firm). It took almost a year, multiple buyers opening and falling out on their sale property, plenty of tears from everyone, but my clients really wanted the property. We all hung in there and got the job done. I am most proud of that transaction, even though it beat us all up. I promised them I'd get them their four bedroom, fabulous view home in a great school district at a price they could afford.... and I did! I look at my clients now and they are so happy in the home and are expecting their first child. Super rewarding!

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Reeves-Costa: The most satisfying part of my job is the fact that I am helping clients build wealth and create huge futures. It's no easy feat to purchase a home in Los Angeles and it has challenges when selling. At the end of the day, I am able to reach a lot of people, make a ton of meaningful connections and see the amazing things that happen to clients as a result of buying or selling a property.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Reeves-Costa: When I decided to name the team the LA Home Girl team, it was born out of the spirit of friendship and the bond I form with our clients. While I am a girl and I sell homes, I care deeply about the future and well being of everyone I am involved with in each transaction. We used the Webster Dictionary's definition as our play on words:

Definition of homegirl. 1 :a girl or woman from one's neighborhood, hometown, or region; broadly :a female friend. 2 :a girl or woman who is a member of one's peer group.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Reeves-Costa: The best piece of advice I've been given is to never ever give up. I take that to heart when it comes to almost every aspect of my life. Especially in business.

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?

Reeves-Costa: We are pretty involved in our east side community. We are most excited about the Glassell Park Christmas Tree Lighting and the Echo Park Community Parade. Our team hosts a huge buyer seminar twice a year and we have one coming up this week.

We also direct an east side networking group called WIN Networking, which supports PATH and we volunteer for local organizations: the Alliance of Moms and GiveBack Homes.
