High Winds Could Blow Through Echo Park and Silver Lake Through Early Tuesday

Gusts of over 20 miles an hour are reported just before noon Monday in Echo Park.

Wind gusts of over 20 miles an hour were already blowing through Echo Park and Silver Lake at noon.

The National Weather Service has issued a high winds advisory through Tuesday at 6 a.m.

You're advised to secure the obvious, including, as local resident Jen Byrne noted, gates to keep animals secure in backyards.

Meteorologists are forecasting gusts of 80 mph in local mountains, 70 mph in the Antelope Valley and 60 mph in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.

"All other locations can expect wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph,'' according
to a National Weather Service advisory.

The advisory said the winds will peak Mondy afternoon and persist through late in the evening

"These strong winds will likely cause power outages and possibly some
property damage,'' the National Weather Service advisory warned.
