Historic Silver Lake Texaco To Be Relocated For Preservation
The 1940s era gas station n Silver Lake Boulevard currently sits vacant.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A historic 1940s-era Texaco gas station in Silver Lake will be relocated for maintenance and turned into a concessions stand and bike rental-repair shop, Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell announced Wednesday.
"We are saving the Texaco gas station and bringing it back to life in a creative, useful way," O'Farrell said. "This preservation plan underscores my belief that we can evolve into the future without sacrificing our cultural heritage."
The now abandoned building is located at 1650 N Silver Lake Blvd.

The nonprofit River LA, the new owner of the structure, is working to identify locations along the Los Angeles River to determine a permanent home for the building.
"River LA sees this project as an opportunity to create a much needed Los Angeles River amenity to offer concessions, recreational opportunities and serve as an informational hub for community members," said Ed Reyes, the executive director of River LA.
