Man Stabbed on Metro Subway Dies

A man was stabbed Monday in a fight on a Metro Red Line train and died from his injuries.

After the stabbing, the train came to stop at the Vermont/Santa Monica Station about 9:20 a.m., and the victim was taken to a hospital, according to Metro's Marc Littman.

The victim died at County-USC Medical Center around 6:35 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Carmen Arballo said.

The stabbing occurred after a verbal confrontation between two men, according to media reports.

According to broadcast reports, the victim was cut in the throat, with the attack captured by a video camera inside the train.

The station was closed until about 11 a.m. while an investigation was conducted. Trains were "single-tracking" through the area, Littman said.

Only a vague description of the suspect -- a man -- was immediately available, sheriff's Lt. Albert Maldonado said.
