New Year, New Menu At Alcove Café & Bakery In Los Feliz
The neighborhood fave restaurant & bar has elevated its offerings. Shakshuka Toast, anyone? Or perhaps a Kale and Persimmon Salad?
LOS FELIZ, CA — The popular Los Feliz neighborhood eatery Alcove Café & Bakery, along with its cocktail den, Big Bar, is upping its game for 2020 with new menu additions for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Housed in two of the oldest houses in Los Feliz, a Spanish duplex built in 1916 and a Craftsman cottage built in 1897, Alcove still serves many of its classics. But the new dishes add a most modern twist for diners.

Breakfast:
- Crab Toast – tartine country bread, blue crab, fennel, capers, pastis mayo, lemon, poached egg ($16)
- Avocado Toast – tartine country bread, avocado, pistachio salsa matcha, labneh, chili oil, parsley ($12)
- Shakshuka Toast – tartine country bread, San Marzano tomato, red bell pepper, parsley, mint, poached egg ($11)
- Banana Cashew Toast – tartine Danish rye, St. Germain bruleed bananas, vanilla cashew butter, crushed cashews ($13)
- Breakfast Sando – cheesy eggs, bacon, pickles, special sauce, sweet potato bun, fermented fresno hot sauce, rosemary potatoes on the side ($15)

- Chicken Wings – pickle-brined, jidori chicken wings, fermented Fresno Chili hot sauce, dill, chives ($12)
- Kale and Persimmon Salad – baby lacinato kale, Fuyu persimmon, dried cherries, pepitas, toasted almonds, vegan ranch dressing ($14)
- Winter Citrus Salad – Bloomsdale spinach, Kishu mandarin, oro blanco, Pink Lady apple, horseradish crème fraiche, mimolette cheese ($14)
- Little Gems Caesar Salad – little gems, Grana Padano, boquerones, tartine country croutons, lemon, caesar dressing ($14)
- Big Bar Burger – cream co beef, American cheese, iceberg tomato jam, house pickles, griddled red onion, special sauce, sweet potato bun ($18 – add fried egg $2)
- Fried Chicken Sando – fried Jidori chicken thigh, kimchi, miso pickles, house mayo, jalapeno, mint, sweet potato bun ($16)
- Winter Harvest Sandwich – mixed mushrooms, delicata squash, preserved lemon, basil, arugula, mozzarella, salsa verde, toasted flatbread ($17)
- Alcove “Club” – sliced turkey breast, applewood smoked bacon, red onion, tomato jam, avocado, little gems, house mayo ($16)
The cocktail space, Big Bar, helmed by inventive bar manager Cari Hah, offers happy hour Mondays through Fridays from 2 p.m.-7 p.m., with early or late bites, as well. And Hah has curated original and rotating seasonal craft cocktails with such standouts as the "#tigermom gimlet," "exquisite AF martini," "welcome to the junglebird" and more.
