Darrin Jeffries has been identified as the man stabbed to death early Sunday morning at the border of Echo Park and Silver Lake.
Jeffries, 33, died after a fight with another man at the intersection of Waterloo and Clinton streets near the Dream Center, according to an email from homicide detective Julian Pere in LAPD's Rampart Division.
Detective Pere said the man fled east on Clinton after stabbing Jeffries. He also said there is no indication that the incident was gang-related.
According to a posting on Echo Park-Silver Lake Patch's Facebook page, Jeffries had grown up in the area, attended John Marshall High School and had many friends and a wife:
Carlos Lima Its a very sad day. This was my good friend since elementary. His name is darren. He wasn't a gang banger at all. Cool Hawaiian kid who never had any trouble like that.
The suspect in the killing is described as "a male, Hispanic, wearing black shoes, black pants, and a black jacket with a hood."
According to Pere, the suspect's motive is still not known.
Anyone with any information--including surveillance video of the area--is asked to contact Detective Pere at 213-484-3638.
