2 Armed Robberies, Student with Replica AR-15 at ECHS, Pedestrian Hurt in Hit-and-Run

February 1, 2013
Weapon on School Grounds – (El Cerrito High School) 540 Ashbury Avenue
At approximately 8:15am, the El Cerrito school resource officer obtained information that a male juvenile student possibly had a gun in his backpack. El Cerrito police officers responded to the high school and the male juvenile was removed from his classroom and detained. Officers found a disassembled AR-15 replica airsoft rifle in his backpack. The juvenile was detained and taken to the El Cerrito Police Department. The juvenile was released to his parents at the police station.
Residential Burglary – 3400 block of Belmont Avenue
Between 8:00am and 9:40am, unknown suspect(s) used an unknown tool and forced open the front door. Several electronic items were taken from the bedrooms and living room area.
Auto Burglary – Parking lot of 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
An unknown suspect smashed the victim’s front passenger window and stole the victim’s backpack sometime between 1800 and 1915 hours.
Theft from Auto – 225 El Cerrito Plaza
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole the victim’s purse sometime between 1900 and 1940 hours.
Driving under the influence – San Pablo Ave. / Fairmount Ave.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 48 year-old San Leandro man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober family member.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Schmidt Ln.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested a 53 year-old San Pablo woman for an outstanding warrant. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.
Driving under the influence – San Pablo Ave. / Cutting Blvd.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 31 year-old Richmond man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.
Driving under the influence – Macdonald Ave. / I-80
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 25 year-old Richmond man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober family member.

Residential Burglary – 5600 block of Barrett Ave.
Between 5:00pm on January 28th to 8:00am on February 2nd, an unknown suspect kicked in the ply wood covered rear door to a vacant house which was under renovation and stole approximately $6,000.00- $7,000.00 worth of miscellaneous tools.
Auto Burglary – 2200 block of Carquinez Ave.
Between 7:00am to 9:00am, an unknown suspect shattered the front passenger side window to the victims Nissan Versa and stole miscellaneous electronics.
Bank Robbery – Chase Bank 9950 San Pablo Ave.
While investigating a possible forgery at Mechanics Bank, Officers detained a man from Oakland who was leaving the area and matched the description of the forger. While detaining the male, Chase Bank reported that they had just been robbed. Witnesses from Chase Bank positively identified the male that was detained, as the suspect who robbed Chase Bank. (Further investigation revealed that the male was not associated with the forgery from Mechanics Bank). The male suspect entered Chase Bank, handed the teller a robbery note and the teller gave the male $4,000.00 in cash. The male suspect still had the cash in his hands when officers detained him. The man, a 53 year old San Francisco resident, was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and taken to the Martinez Detention Facility. The investigations division is investigating possible connections with other bank robberies in the Bay Area.
Auto Burglary – CVS Pharmacy 670 El Cerrito Plaza
Between 1:00pm to 1:15pm, an unknown suspect broke the driver side window to the victims 1995 Chevy Blazer and stole approximately $910.00 of miscellaneous items from inside the vehicle.
Auto Burglary – CVS Pharmacy 670 El Cerrito Plaza
Between 1:00pm to 1:15pm, an unknown suspect broke the passenger side window to the victims 2005 Ford Focus and stole approximately $200.00 of miscellaneous items from inside the vehicle.
Auto Burglary – CVS Pharmacy 670 El Cerrito Plaza
Between 1:00pm to 1:15pm, an unknown suspect broke the driver side window to the victims 2010 Toyota FJ and stole approximately 525.00 of miscellaneous items from inside the vehicle.
Hit and Run Collision (Vehicle vs. Pedestrian) – Sketchers 5805 Cutting Blvd.
At approximately 3:54pm, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle as the vehicle exited the Sketchers parking lot onto Cutting Blvd. The vehicle drove away without attempting to contact the pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered a sprained knee and was transported to the hospital. Several minutes later San Pablo police officers stopped the vehicle in San Pablo. A witness positively identified the driver, a 21 year-old male from San Pablo, and the vehicle as being associated with the collision. The driver admitted to hitting the pedestrian and was booked for felony hit and run. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Driving under the influence and Vehicle Collision – 500 block of Clayton Ave.
Officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision with unknown injuries. When officers arrived, they found a black Ford Explorer in the middle of the road that had collided with two parked cars. Officers contacted and arrested the driver, a 58 year-old El Sobrante woman for driving under the influence of alcohol. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober family member.
Armed Robbery – Schmidt Ln. / San Pablo Ave.
A victim was approached by a suspect armed with a firearm. The suspect demanded the victim’s property and fled on foot prior to police arrival.
Warrant Arrest, Possession of a controlled substance, Possession of burglary tools – Eastshore Blvd. Officers conducted a bicycle stop and arrested a 41 year-old Richmond man for an outstanding felony warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police department during which an officer located methamphetamine and several burglary tools. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Driving under the influence of alcohol – San Pablo Ave. / Eastshore Blvd.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 22 year-old Fremont man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

Warrant Arrest – El Cerrito Police Department
At 3:05 PM, a woman from El Cerrito turned herself in at the police station for a theft related, Concord Police arrest warrant. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and arranged for bail.
Auto Burglary – Bridges Rock Gym 5633 San Diego St.
Between 9:30am to 12:00pm, an unknown suspect used a brick to break the front passenger side window of the victim’s 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and stole a leather brief case worth $400.00.

Between 9:30am to 12:00pm, an unknown suspect broke the rear window of the victim’s 2005 Honda Element and stole the victim’s duffle bag. The duffle bag was later located in a nearby parking stall.
Grand Theft – Staples 11545 San Pablo Ave
On January 31st, 2013 between 3:00pm to 3:30pm, an unknown male and two females stole approximately $2801.73 worth of printer ink from the display shelf. The manager realized the theft several days later after conducting an inventory check and watching surveillance video.
Bicycle Patrol
El Cerrito police officers conducted bicycle patrol throughout the city between 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
Residential Burglary – 2600 block of Yuba St.
An unknown suspect smashed the victim’s kitchen window, conducted a minor ransack, and stole property sometime between 1500 and 2020 hours.
Driving under the influence – Blake St. / Elm St.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 28 year-old El Cerrito man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.
Possession of a controlled substance, Warrant, Under the influence – Fairmount Ave. / Carlson Blvd.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 29 year-old Oakland man for possession of methadone pills and an outstanding warrant. The passenger, a 39 year-old Oakland woman was under the influence of a controlled substance and provided a false name until her true name was revealed during booking. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.
Public Intoxication, Resisting arrest – 10458 San Pablo Ave.
Officers were dispatched to a fight at the Sky Lounge between four females. Upon arrival, officers learned that one of the females was extremely intoxicated and belligerent. The other females were trying to restrain her and calm her down. Officers arrested a severely intoxicated 25 year-old woman after she refused orders to cease her unruly behavior. Due to her level of intoxication and combative behavior, she was transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Hit and Run Collision (Vehicle vs. Parked Vehicle) – 5300 Poinsett Ave
The victim reported that an unknown vehicle collided with his parked vehicle sometime between 8:30 pm on February 2nd to 7:34am on February 4th. Officer’s later found the suspect vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Jordan Ave. Evidence from the scene and damage to the suspect’s vehicle were consistent with the damage done to the victim’s vehicle. The owner of the suspect vehicle, a man from El Cerrito, refused to cooperate with the investigation.
Possession of Marijuana on School Campus – Portola Middle School, 1021 Navellier St.
At approximately 9:17am, a male juvenile from Richmond, was arrested for possession of marijuana. The juvenile was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and was released to his guardian.
An El Cerrito police officer conducted a home inspection to a residence in the 7300 block of Potrero Avenue from 1:00pm to 1:30pm.
El Cerrito patrol officers provided extra patrol around Fairmont School throughout the day.
Warrant Arrest – Stockton Ave @ Everett St
During a traffic stop officers arrested a 26 year old male from Los Angeles for an outstanding traffic warrant. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and given a citation. T.O.O – 2357 hours
Possession of Burglary Tools – Carlson Blvd @ San Pablo Ave
During a traffic stop officers arrested a 41 year old male for being possession of burglary tools. The male was on probation out of Alameda County for a drug charge. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and given a citation. T.O.O – 0149 hours

Theft with Priors/Possession of a Controlled Substance - 11450 San Pablo Ave.
An officer was dispatched to Safeway for an in-custody shoplifter. Loss prevention agents detained a 47 year old male (transient) for attempting to leave the store with stolen merchandise. During booking the male was found to be in possession of several codeine pills. After booking, the male was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Auto Burglary - IFO 5020 El Cerrito Plaza
An officer reports unknown suspect(s) broke a window of the victim’s vehicle that was parked in the parking lot and removed two back packs containing electronics. The burglary occurred between the hours of 4:00PM-6:37PM.
Residential Burglary - 8300 Block of Kent Ct.
An officer reports that unknown suspect(s) forced opened a bedroom window to gain entry into the residence and stole electronics. The burglary occurred between the hours of 5:15PM - 8:45PM.
Armed Robbery - 6500 Block of Stockton Ave.
An officer reports that the victim was walking southbound near the library when he was approached by three suspects. One of the suspects held the victim’s arms while a second suspect brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s backpack as the third suspect was acting as a lookout. The time of incident was 9:30PM-9:35PM. Suspects were described as:
S1- Asian male, 18-20 years old, 5’04”, 150lbs, wearing light colored hoodie.
S2 - Asian male, 18-20 years old, 5’04”, 150lbs, wearing a dark colored baseball cap, with a firearm.
S3 - Asian male, armed with a firearm.

Driving Under the Influence / Resisting Arrest - 10000 of San Pablo Ave.
Officers responded to a call of a vehicle and building collision. Upon arrival, officers located the driver who was attempting to start his disabled vehicle. During the investigation, the driver, a 31 year old male from Albany, was arrested for DUI. While officers were placing the male under arrested he began to resist officers. After booking the male was released to a relative.
