BART Service Between Richmond and El Cerrito del Norte Suspended

Free busses will replace trains over the holiday weekend while crews work to replace tracks.

EL CERRITO, CA — BART service between the Richmond and El Cerrito del Norte stations will be suspended through the three-day weekend as BART works to replace 50-year-old track components, BART officials announced.

Crews will focus on rebuilding an interlocking, which is a critical section of track that functions as an intersection and allows for trains to safely move from one line to another.

The work will require track closures at the Richmond station on five weekends: January 16 to 18, January 30 and 31, February 13 to 15, February 27 and 28, and March 13 and 14.

Free buses will replace trains between the Richmond and El Cerrito del Norte stations. Riders taking the buses should plan to add 15 to 20 minutes to their trips, BART officials said.

During the track closure and work, neighbors and surrounding businesses may experience coming from the equipment and crews, but the end result of the track work will be a quieter experience for neighbors.

The project is funded by Measure RR, a $3.5 billion bond measure that Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco county voters approved in 2016 to build a safer and more reliable system for riders.

Similar track replacement projects in Oakland, Concord, Lafayette, Orinda and Hayward were completed.
