Bullets Spilled in Chase Near School, ID Theft Suspect Caught in Stolen Car

The El Cerrito police blotter for Oct. 22-25 includes the arrest of a woman in a stolen Infiniti who admitted to filing more than 50 fake tax returns, the arrest of a fleeing parolee who tossed gun spilled bullets next to a school, and five stolen cars.

October 22 

Stolen Vehicle – 6600 block of Hill Street 
Officer Payne reports the victim’s black Nissan 200SX was stolen in the morning after the keys were left in the vehicle with the engine running. 

Warrant Arrest – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Avenue 
Officer Li arrested a 43-year-old man for an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Theft – 2000 block of Key Boulevard 
Officer Payne reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s mailbox and its contents sometime between October 19th and October 22nd. 

Stolen Vehicle – 10500 block of San Pablo Avenue 
Officer Aguilar reports the victim’s 1991 Honda Accord was stolen sometime during the evening hours. 

Driving Under the Influence - Central Avenue and Yosemite Avenue 
Officer Elder arrested a 33 year old man from Oakland for DUI during a traffic enforcement stop. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation. 

October 23 

Stolen Vehicle / Identity Theft Arrest – 11861 San Pablo Ave 
At 0738 hours, Officer Li located an occupied stolen Infiniti on San Pablo Ave at Cutting Blvd. A high risk stop was made in the parking lot of Starbuck’s. The driver, a woman from Pinole, was arrested. The follow-up investigation conducted by Officer Li and Detective Matsui determined that the driver was in possession of identification cards, checks, Social Security cards and personal banking information belonging to approximately ten victims, including an El Cerrito resident who was previously a victim of identity theft. She also admitted to filing over 50 false IRS tax returns in 2011 and using the identities of dead people to establish credit accounts. She was booked and transported to Martinez detention Facility. 

Stolen Vehicle – 11780 San Pablo Ave 
Officer Strang reports a Saturn was stolen sometime between 10/22/12 at 0730 hours and 10/23/12 at 0710 hours. 

Warrant Arrest – Del Norte BART Station 
Officer Purdy recognized a man with a warrant for his arrest. Officer Purdy arrested the man, booked him and took him to County Jail. 

Robbery – Super Stop Gas Station 
At 1422 hours, a man and woman entered Super Stop gas station and stole food. When the clerk attempted to stop the suspects, they assaulted him. They suspects fled toward Eastshore Blvd. 

Welfare Check / Missing Person – Del Norte BART Station 
At 1626 hours, officers responded to a call of a woman chasing another woman toward Del Norte BART station. Officers located both women in the northern BART parking lot. They learned that one of the women was a missing person suffering from mental health challenges. An ambulance took the woman to the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center. 

DUI and Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Avenue / Wall Avenue 
Officer Aguilar arrested a 53 year old man from Richmond for DUI during a traffic enforcement stop. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility after it was determined that he had an outstanding warrant from the Department of Corrections for a parole violation. 

Auto Burglary - 5600 block of Ludwig Avenue 
Officer Elder reports and unknown suspect broke the passenger window to the victim’s Toyota and stole miscellaneous property from within the vehicle. 

October 24 

Parolee at Large and Felon in Possession of Firearm – San Pablo Ave. at Cypress Ave. 
Detective Hernandez saw a wanted man walking on San Pablo Ave., near the Police Department, at 1152 hours. He coordinated the arrest of the subject, near the intersection with Cypress Ave. The man, a parolee at large, fled from officers and threw a gun toward St. John’s Elementary School. The gun hit a concrete wall, breaking the magazine, and spewing bullets onto the sidewalk in front of the school. Officers arrested the man, recovered the gun and took the man to County Jail. The man is a person of interest in other violent crimes. 

Stolen Vehicle and Recovered Stolen Vehicle - 6700 block of Fairmount Avenue 
Officer Alvarez reports that the victim’s Honda Civic was stolen sometime during the day by an unknown suspect. While investigating the theft, Officer Alvarez located a parked Honda Accord in the same area that was stolen from San Francisco earlier in the day. 

Felony Theft and Outstanding Warrants - Lucky’s Supermarket, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza 
Loss prevention agents from Lucky’s called to report a subject concealing liquor bottles into a duffel bag inside of the store. Officers responded and took the 47-year-old man from Oakland into custody as he exited the store with the stolen items. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department where officers learned that he had a warrant for narcotics and a parole violation. After booking, the man was transported to County Jail. 

October 25 

Driving Under the Influence - San Pablo Avenue and Central Avenue 
Sgt. Caputo conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the 35 year old male driver for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle - San Pablo Avenue and Wall Street 
Cpl. Tang located a parked Honda Accord reported stolen to El Cerrito PD on October 22nd. 

Auto Burglary – 6700 Block Waldo Ave 
Officer Jacala reports unknown suspect(s) damaged the passenger door lock to a Toyota Camry, entered the vehicle, and damaged the glove box. The car was parked on the street and the burglary occurred between 10/24 at 1730 hours and 10/25 at 0815 hours. 

Auto Burglary – 5600 Block El Dorado St 
Officer Jacala reports unknown suspect(s) broke the right rear passenger window to a Ford Explorer, entered the vehicle and stole property. The vehicle was parked on the street and the burglary occurred between 10/23 at 2100 hours and 10/25 at 0430 hours. 

Stolen Vehicle – 600 block of Norvell Street 
Officer Thepkaysone reports that the victim’s Saturn was stolen from their driveway at midnight. 

Residential Burglary - 100 block of San Carlos Avenue 
Officer Elder reports that the resident returned home to find that an unknown suspect had entered their house through an open window and stolen some of their property. The residents were only gone for an hour.
