Celebrate 100 Years of Contra Costa Libraries
A West County "birthday party" is planned for Saturday at the El Sobrante Library.

The Contra Costa County Library system is 100 years old this year, and a West County birthday celebration is planned for Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at the El Sobrante Library, 4191 Appian Way (off San Pablo Dam Road), El Sobrante.
Members of local historical societies will talk about the history of the libraries in West County. The program is aimed at adults and teens.
The county library system began with the opening of the Walnut Creek Lbrary in 1913. It now includes 26 libraries, and patrons have borrowed over 7 million items in the past century.
