Charity Event Keeps Alive Memory Of Fallen Officer

Golf tournament to raise funds for the California Transplant Center and Oakland Police Emergency Network.

Oakland Police Officer John Hege — in life and death — always tried to help those in need. His spirit of compassion will be honored Friday during the second annual PSR West Coast Builders golf tournament and motorcycle ride.

Officer Hege was killed in 2009 when a traffic stop turned tragic. Oakland Police pulled over Lovelle Mixon, who was wanted on a parole violation. Witnesses testified Mixon opened fire on the officers as they looked over his license and registration. In the chaos, Mixon and four officers, including Hege were killed.

Hege was taken to Highland Hospital and pronounced brain dead. His organs and tissues were donated to patients in need.

The golf tournament at Diablo Creek Golf Course will raise funds for OPEN (Oakland Police Emergency Net) and the California Transplant Center.
