Comment to Council: Stop Wasting Time on U.S. Policy, Deal with Crime Here
The El Cerrito City Council's resolution calling for less military spending, including prompt withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, and more funding of domestic needs prompted strong reader reaction, including the "Comment of the Week."

Again, many notable comments were generated this past week by a number of stories, ranging from the in Kensington to the . Perhaps the sharpest clash of views came in response to our July 18 article on the unanimously approved City Council resolution calling for a prompt return of U.S. troops from Afghanistan and a significant reallocation of the military buget to domestic needs, "." That article drew our Comment of the Week from "EC Resident":
I live in a generally quiet neighborhood in the hills. My nieghbors' car, which had been broken into 6 times, was finally stolen a few months ago. A window on the brand new car that they bought to replace it was shot out in last week's BB gun rampage. Two houses within a block of ours have been burglarized within the past two months. Please stop wasting time on garbage like this (and theft-ready copper sculptures) and do the job that you were elected to do. The federal government cares as much about your little resolution as you seem to care about the issues directly affecting your constituents on a day-to-day basis.
