Kidnapper Arrested Following Dangerous Police Chase Through El Cerrito, Albany: Police

Police officials report that the violent kidnapping suspect attempted to carjack two cars, and hit multiple vehicles along the way.

EL CERRITO, CA- A police pursuit through El Cerrito with a kidnapping, would-be carjacker, came to an end following several hit and run collisions before ending in Albany Saturday afternoon, reports El Cerrito Police officials.

Officials say the pursuit began when a Prius took off during a traffic stop in North Richmond. Police determined that the registered owner had an arrest warrant for kidnapping, evasion, false imprisonment and domestic violence.

During the pursuit, a female passenger reportedly appeared distressed and frantically waved her arms out of the window.

Law enforcement officers trailed the car using a helicopter as the suspect reportedly fled, hitting multiple vehicles and allegedly attempting to carjack two victims during the pursuit.

The chase ended on San Pablo Avenue near Brighton Avenue in Albany where the suspect took off on foot and was apprehended by a Richmond K-9.

The female passenger was determined to be a victim of a kidnapping, reports officials.

Police ask victims of a hit and run collisions who have not yet reported their damage to contact El Cerrito Police Department at (510) 237-3233. Anyone with any information on this case is asked to contact the Office of the Sheriff at (925) 313-2600.

No citizens were injured during this incident.
