El Cerrito Homicide Victim Identified

A suspect has been arrested in the shooting. Whether he will face murder charges has not been announced.

EL CERRITO, CA — A man who police say was shot and killed Monday afternoon in El Cerrito has been identified as 50-year-old Steve Gagnon, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

Gagnon was allegedly shot by Lance Paulson, 50, in the 7400 block of Park Vista around 3:45 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Paulson, an American Canyon resident, suffered an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and then arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.

Investigators are looking into what led up to the shooting, El Cerrito police Lt. Steve Bonini said.
