El Cerrito Law Enforcement Brings Home Big Win at CHP Explorer Competition

El Cerrito Police Department's Explorer Post competed in the Annual State Capital Explorer Challenge, bringing home five top spots.

EL CERRITO, CA- El Cerrito Police Department's Explorer Post competed in the Annual State Capital Explorer Challenge held at the California Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento from April 29-May, bringing home several top awards.

Officials report that the Explorer Post competed in 15 scenarios over the three day period, against 43 other explorer programs from around California, earned trophies and awards in five scenario competitions:

2nd Place – Law Enforcement/Investigation: Drunk in Public

3rd Place – Law Enforcement/Investigation: Domestic Violence

4th Place – Law Enforcement/Investigation: Suspicious Person

5th Place – Physical Fitness: Obstacle Course

"This success was the result of a lot of hard work by the Explorers and numerous department members who helped train and prepare them for the competition," officials said in a press release.

ECPD Explorers volunteer their time by attending required monthly meetings, attending the Explorer Academy during the Summer, and assisting staff around the department.

As the statewide competition approaches, the group focuses on training and preparation for the grueling scenario based competition.

Officers within ECPD also donate their time consisting of hundreds of hours of work with the Explorer Post. Congratulations to everyone involved, and especially the Explorers whose hard work paid dividends.
