El Cerrito Seeks Proposal for New Artist Residency Program

The city is is currently accepting proposals for the newly created El Cerrito Creative ReUse Artist Residency.

From the City of El Cerrito: The City of El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission is currently accepting proposals for the newly created El Cerrito Creative ReUse (“ECCRU”) Artist Residency to take place at the City's popular Recycling + Environmental Resource Center.

The ECCRU Artist Residency will provide the selected artist with access to materials at the City's Recycling + Environmental Resource Center for use in artistic projects, an on-site storage bin for materials, a small stipend and support for an exhibition at the end of the residency.

The program is intended to support local artists in Contra Costa or Alameda Counties who work with recycled materials, and to encourage environmental stewardship – specifically, resource conservation, recycling and upcycling - in the community through art that inspires people to think about sustainability and consumption. The new program is funded by the City's Art in Public Places Program.

“Local artists passionate about upcycling and creative reuse are encouraged to apply, including painters, textile artists, photographers, printmakers, as well as musicians, performers, those working in film and video, and conceptual and installation artists”, explained Suzanne Iarla, the staff liaison to the Arts and Culture Commission.
