El Cerrito Senior Center Lease Terminated
West Contra Costa Unified Board of Education gave district staff direction to terminate the lease of the Senior Center by June 30.

From the City of El Cerrito: On May 24, 2017, without notice, the West Contra Costa Unified School District Board of Education gave district staff direction to terminate the lease of the El Cerrito Senior Center by June 30, 2018. Until this meeting, WCCUSD had not given any indications that the Senior Center’s lease was in jeopardy.
The El Cerrito Senior Center has been in its current location for over fifty years. Several Senior Center participants, all El Cerrito City Councilmembers, and City staff have asked on multiple occasions to allow the City more time at the current location so that a comparable or better location can be identified in a more reasonable amount of time. The District has not responded to these requests which effectively means that the Senior Center will have to leave its current location by June 30, 2018. City staff is diligently working to find a temporary or permanent location to maintain the City’s senior services and updates will be provided to the community as they become available.
