El Cerrito Woman Identified as Train Victim

Her death has been ruled an accident by the coroner's office.

A woman struck and killed by an eastbound Amtrak train last week in Richmond has been identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 53-year-old Shirley Bishop.

The El Cerrito resident was struck at 3:15 p.m. on Nov. 12 about three miles north of the Berkeley station by a train headed from Oakland to Sacramento, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said. There were no injuries to the crew or to the more than 90 passengers on board, Graham said.

Coroner’s officials earlier this week reported that the death was an accident.
