Freeway Shooting on I-80 in Richmond, Suspects Shot at Taxicab

CHP officials report that there has been another car-to-car shooting, this time on Interstate 80.

RICHMOND, CA- Two passengers were shot at while riding in a taxi on I-80 near Richmond Sunday, according to CHP officials.

CHP reports that two passengers were traveling eastbound on the highway when a minivan with two occupants pulled alongside the cab and began shooting. After the suspect drove away, the taxicab pulled off the freeway to a nearby parking lot.

Once the cab driver stopped, the passengers reportedly ran away, while the owner of the taxicab remained to wait for officers to respond.

No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol's non-emergency line at 1-800-TELL-CHP (1-800-835-5247) or the CHP Special Investigations Unit at (510) 622-4609. Witnesses who wish to remain anonymous may do so.

This shooting brings the number of highway shootings in the East Bay to 17 since November. CHP has stated that highway shootings are believed to be gang related and have made two arrests this week.
