Grooving Jazz Band Serenades Locals Downtown El Cerrito

Did you catch the street-stage set up last weekend on San Pablo Avenue? Here's a video in case you missed it.

EL CERRITO, CA- Passerbyers on San Pablo Avenue afternoon got a groovy serenade as they strolled through downtown El Cerrito last Saturday.

A local band set-up a stage, complete with a disco ball and props in the shopping strip across from Pastime Ace Hardware, and reportedly played funky-jazz-grooves all afternoon.

Resident Mary Barnsdale told Patch that Jazz has a special place in history on that block of El Cerritos, explaining that the area used to have a pretty lively in the music scene.

"The upstairs of Pastime Hardware used to be a dance hall and the dental office at the corner of San Pablo and Central was the It Club, where many jazz singers and players performed," Barnsdale said, "Now here it is again, full circle."

Patchy shout out to Mary Barnsdale who snagged this video of the show.
