Happy Mother’s Day From Marian Glenn-Ellis

"I have learned that there is no time like now to celebrate all the extra time the universe has given us."

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Marian Glenn-Ellis's letter to her mom:

Dear Mom,

I wrote part of this a while ago and I’ve wanted to share with the world because you never stop adding the ways that you are wonderful:

The scene has been set the same way for over 40 years. She is standing (not sitting...never sitting) behind the counter while she is crafting or designing or writing out an order. Her door is always open, and she always greets you with that same comforting smile, ready with a kind word, a good idea and a supportive thought. Everything she touches turns to gold. Her “shop” is an office, a daycare, a pet shop and a therapy center.

I'm sure you all know who I am talking about. Kathleen Glenn is a part of all of us. I know you think you are lucky to know her, but the truth is that I'm the luckiest one. I get to call her “Mom.” In an ever-changing techy world where your worth is defined by material things, I will always be the richest because I have her.

If you have ever gotten some good advice or works of art from her, been a customer or friend to her or shared a laugh or conversation with her, please join me in wishing her a happy Mother’s Day!

It's still the same scene today, only now only more years have passed, more lives have been touched by her and more people have been helped. Seventy years ago, a bright light was born; someone who didn't fit the mold or fall in line with the rest. She trudged her own path and made new rules.

Maybe you’re blown away that she is 70 years old, but she is proud to say it. She is a survivor, and I'm grateful for her hard work for her health. Not only have I learned from her, but I am thankful that I have her to be with us moment after moment. I could have lost her at age 12, and I have learned that there is no time like now to celebrate all the extra time the universe has given us.

She is the most accepting of people and has taught me be the same. She’s taught me about strength and to be helpful to others and be part of a community. She is, after all she is a pillar in ours.

She has been there at my best moment and at my absolute worst moment. The thing is, she wouldn’t not be at any of my moments. She shows me love when I cannot see it myself and brings me down to Earth when I get carried away with worry. Seeing her spirit in my twins eyes fills my heart with such hope. She always speaks to my heart while she holds it with care and calms my soul. While she is not rich, she will never ever be low class.

Happy day to you, Mom. There is no better present to give you than our happiness and because of you, we are happy. Thank you for the smile on your face that greets everyone, and that I can always count on. Most of all, thank you for showing me what unconditional love is about. Happy Mothers Day, Mom. Let's keep celebrating for many more to come! I love you!

Your daughter,
Marian Grace
