Homes With Good Walkability Rates For Sale in El Cerrito

Check out this house that is within walking distance of shopping centers and other facilities

The obesity epidemic in America has been well-documented.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight and half of overweight people are obese (one-third of the adult population overall).

A new study contains the latest figures on obesity rates in Contra Costa and Alameda counties. Both are below the national numbers.

Diet and exercise are obvious solutions to this problem. Walking is considered one of the best ways to get daily exercise because it's easy to do, it can be done by most age groups and it's relatively injury-free.

With that in mind, we thought we'd take a look this week at homes for sale that are within walking distance of shopping centers, schools, parks and other facilities.

Overall, El Cerrito has a walkability rating from walkscore.com of 64. The site describes the city as "somewhat walkable."

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom home at 6640 Hill St. has a walkability rating of 75. It's listed at $389,000 and is described as a "convention location" that is close to the highway, the BART station and the new Safeway.

Do you know of any other homes on the market that are in a good location for walking. Let us know in the comments.
