Man Arrested on Suspicion of Elder Abuse and More from the Weekend Police Blotter

The weekend police blotter also includes a hit and run, residential burglary and shoplifting.

May 3, 2013 

Public Intoxication – McDonalds, 11821 San Pablo Avenue

Officers were called to the McDonalds restaurant at approximately 11 a.m. for a report of a subject asleep at a booth and refusing to leave. Officers contacted a heavily intoxicated 26-year-old man from Oakland asleep in the booth. The man was taken into custody and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility after booking at the El Cerrito Police Department. 

Shoplifting – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue 

Officers were called to Safeway at approximately 3:30 a.m. for a report of a shoplifting suspect who had been detained by loss prevention agents after stealing items from the store. Officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of the 19-year-old woman from Cottonwood and brought her to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, officers released her with a citation. 

Residential Burglary – 300 block of Ramona Avenue

At approximately 5:10 p.m. officers responded to a report of a residential burglary that had just occurred. Neighbors reported that three male teenagers had forced open the front door and entered the residence. Shortly after, they exited the residence and fled in a silver colored sedan eastbound on Fairmount Avenue. Officers determined that the suspects had ransacked the entire house and stolen numerous items from the home. 

Possession of Burglary Tools – Super 8 Motel, 6009 Potrero Ave 

At 1:34 a.m. officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 21-year-old female from Richmond for being in possession of burglary tools. The female was also on probation out of Contra Costa County. 

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/Central Ave 

At 1:23 a.m. officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 27-year-old man from Hercules, for DUI. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, issued a citation and released to a sober family member. 

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Potrero Ave 

At 1:38 a.m. officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and discovered that the driver, a 39-year-old man from Oakland, had a traffic warrant from Oakland. The driver was field cited and released. 

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/San Diego St 

At 2:54 a.m., officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 24 year old female from Richmond, for three warrants from the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County. The female was booked and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

May 4, 2013 

Possession of and under the influence of a Controlled Substance – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue 

Officers responded to the parking lot of Safeway at approximately 9:30 a.m., after their security guard called to report a suspicious person loitering around the vehicles in the lot. Officers contacted a 21-year-old man from Concord and located suspected methamphetamine on his person. The man also appeared to be under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant. The man was arrested and taken to county jail. 

Battery (Domestic Violence) – Parking lot of IHOP, 11511 San Pablo Avenue 

At 12:44 p.m., the employees of IHOP called to report a physical altercation between a man and woman in a vehicle in the parking lot of the restaurant. Officers contacted the subjects and determined that female victim had been struck by her 19-year-old boyfriend while they were seated in their vehicle in the parking lot. Officers arrested the man and sent him to county jail. 

Public Intoxication – Lucky’s, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza 

At approximately 5 p.m., an officer contacted a subject who asleep on the bench in front of the supermarket. The 55-year-old man from Richmond was extremely intoxicated and did not know where he was. The officer arrested the man and transported him to county jail. 

Elder Abuse and a Parolee at Large – 6500 block of Knott Ave 

At 6:04 a.m. officers were dispatched to a possible residential burglary in progress. The reporting party saw two subjects leaving a house carrying items in their pockets. Officers located the two subjects on San Pablo Avenue. The subjects were a 47-year-old man from El Sobrante and a 32-year-old man from El Sobrante. One of the men was a parolee at large. The other man was in possession of a key to the house and is suspected of being involved in an ongoing elder abuse case. 

Drunk in Public – 600 block of Liberty St 

At 11:32 p.m. officers were dispatched to a call of man who was acting drunk and out of control. Officers arrived on scene and located the man, a 32 year old resident from El Cerrito, in the yard of a residence. The male slow to respond, not wearing shoes, and unable to walk safely on his own. Officers arrested the man and released him to a sober associate. 

Driving under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/Potrero Ave 

At 12:07 a.m. officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 37-year-old woman from Richmond, for DUI. The woman was booked, issued a citation and then released to a sober friend. 

Attempted Vehicle Theft – 7200 block of Waldo Ave 

At 12:32 a.m. officers were dispatched to a call of someone trying to steal a car. The victim heard the vehicle start, looked outside, and saw a man in his car. The suspect fled on foot. An El Cerrito officer recognized the description of the suspect as a person he had met earlier in the evening. Officers intercepted the man, a 37 year old Richmond resident, as he tried to return home. The victim confirmed that the man was the car thief and officers made an arrest.

Driving under the Influence – Carlson Blvd/Sacramento Ave 
At 2:11 a.m. officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 27-year-old woman from El Cerrito, for DUI. Officers issued her a citation and released her to a sober friend.
