Mystery of Missing El Cerrito Statue Continues

Giant 'General Joey' had special significance to family and neighbors.

How was a 300-pound statue taken from an El Cerrito porch?

The Ouye family is still on the lookout for the hefty statue that disappeared from their front porch last week. Thieves are suspected of hauling the 5-foot statue down a narrow staircase from the home in the 5000 block of Macdonald Avenue, according to the Contra Costa Times.

El Cerrito Police are still perplexed and report no new updates in the case of ‘General Joey’, the family’s moniker for the terra cotta replica of a Chinese Xian warrior. The statue was made during a family vacation in China three years ago, with a head and face that was customized to resemble its owner, Joel Ouye.
