Nonprofit film event celebrates orthopedic health in East Bay
Jackson Orthopedic Foundation celebrates 20th anniversary with Inaugural Canes Film Festival

Earlier this year, Jackson Orthopedic Foundation (JOF) launched its annual Summer Intern program, which provides college students an immersion experience in healthcare while shadowing primary care providers as they treat patients.
“We were looking for a fun way to celebrate our anniversary, and we were also in the process of selecting our cohort of summer interns. In addition to their shadowing experience, the interns always have a final project, so we thought: Why not have them make a short film about orthopedic health?” recalls Kathleen A. Geier, DNP, NP, a co-founder of JOF who also assists with the 6-week student program.
JOF’s 20th Anniversary & Inaugural Canes Film Festival benefit event is the successful result of the interns’ final project. Three student films will be shown at the late-afternoon program on November 4 at a downtown Oakland venue at 1544 Broadway, from 4 to 6 p.m.
