Richmond Crash Victim ID'd As San Pablo Man

Investigators believe the truck hydroplaned before crashing into a light pole.

RICHMOND, CA — A San Pablo man who died in a crash into a light pole Monday in Richmond was identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 22-year-old Jesus Perez.

At 11:45 a.m., officers went to the crash on southbound 22nd Street just south of Bissell Avenue, where a white truck had rolled onto its driver's side, police said.

Two people were inside the truck. Police said Perez was driving.

He suffered major injuries and died later at a hospital.

The passenger in the vehicle escaped injury. Investigators believe that Perez lost control on the truck before he hydroplaned.

Police said speed and a wet road apparently caused the crash. Police are encouraging drivers to slow down during wet weather and to check the tread on their tires because poor tread can cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle.
