Richmond Man, 20, Identified As Lake Berryessa Drowning Victim

The Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office identified a 20-year-old Richmond man who is believed to have accidentally drowned while swimming.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — The body of a young man from Richmond was recovered from the waters of Lake Berryessa Thursday in what the Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office believes was an accidental drowning.

The sheriff's office was first alerted around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday about a man drowning in the lake in an area east of the 10000 block of Berryessa Knoxville Road, according to sheriff's office Spokesman Henry Wofford.

Sheriff's personnel responded Wednesday night but because of water conditions, the dive team was not able to enter the lake until around 10 a.m. Thursday, Wofford said.

Divers recovered the body of 20-year-old Christopher Ricardo Terlesky about an hour later approximately 30 yards from the shore in 23-foot-deep water on the north end of Oak Shores, Wofford said.

Upon talking with witnesses, including family members, the sheriff's office learned Terlesky was attempting to swim across the cove to the other shore when his body got tired and he drowned, Wofford said.
