Richmond Sex Offender With Five Children in Car Arrested

Police say the parolee was combative and tried to resist arrest.

RICHMOND, CA- A man was allegedly combative while he was being arrested Sunday in Richmond for having five young children in his vehicle, a violation of the sex offender registrant's parole, according to police.

Police initially contacted the man after he was spotted driving a vehicle in the wrong direction, according to a Richmond police Facebook post from Wednesday. He quickly made a U-turn and tried to drive away when he saw a Richmond police patrol car, but the officer immediately conducted a traffic stop, police said.

The man was in a vehicle with a woman and five children ranging from 1 to 9 years old, police said. Only one of the children was related to him. It was later discovered that the man was on parole and is not allowed to be in contact with any minors.

When officers attempted to arrest the man for violating the conditions of his parole, he allegedly kicked the windows and doors of the patrol car, damaging one of the car's doors. Police said he also spit in the face of one of the officers before he was taken away for booking.

The officers did not fight with the man, but placed him in a device that controlled his leg movements, police said. Police were not immediately available this morning to provide the identity of the man.
