Store Security Thwarted a Robbery at Lucky

The El Cerrito police blotter for Jan. 4—6 also includes two residential burglaries and three domestic batteries.

January 4, 2013

Residential Burglary –
7400 block of Potrero Ave.
An unknown suspect entered victim’s unlocked vehicle and the obtained garage door opener to the residence. Suspect then gained access to garage and stole property sometime between 1/4/13 midnight to 1/4/13 8 a.m.

Petty Theft –
7400 block of Potrero Ave.
An unknown suspect entered the side yard via unlocked gate and stole the victim’s bicycle sometime between 1/3/13 12 p.m. to 1/4/13 8 a.m.

Strongarm Robbery –
1000 El Cerrito Plaza
Officers arrested a 21-year-old Oakland man after he entered Lucky and stole a box of baby formula. When confronted by store security, he physically resisted and punched security. He continued to fight with store security until officers arrived on scene and helped handcuffed him. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle –
San Pablo Ave. / Huntington Ave.
An officer recovered a 1997 Honda Civic, which was reported stolen from Piedmont on 12/31/12.

Vehicle Theft –
170 El Cerrito Plaza
An unknown suspect stole a 1993 Acura 3.2 sometime on 1/4/13, between 2 p.m. and 10:36 p.m.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle –
11319 San Pablo Ave
An officer arrested a 32 year-old San Francisco man and a 27 year-old San Jose woman for possession of a stolen U-Haul van that had been reported stolen to San Francisco PD earlier that day. The man and woman were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and the man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The woman was released after booking.

Driving under the influence –
San Pablo Ave. / Panama Ave.
An officer arrested a 47-year-old Richmond man for driving under the influence. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle –
Cutting Blvd. / Glen Mawr Ave.
An officer recovered a 1993 Honda Civic, which was reported stolen to San Pablo Police on 1/3/13.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle –
5700 block of Carlos Ave.
An officer recovered a 1995 Acura Integra, which was reported stolen to Alameda Police on 1/2/13.

Driving under the influence –
Richmond St. / Stockton Ave.
An officer arrested a 27-year-old El Cerrito man for driving under the influence. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

January 5, 2013

Residential Burglary –
500 block of Kearney St.
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence via an unlocked sliding glass door and stole property, sometime between 12/25/12 at 7:15 a.m. and 1/4/13 at 8:30 p.m.

Commercial Burglary –
10394 San Pablo Ave.
An unknown suspect entered Marshall’s and began cutting sensor tags off with pliers. The suspect loaded the merchandise into a large bag then walked out of the store. When store security confronted the suspect, he swung the bag at the security guard and ran away on foot without the merchandise. TOO: 1412 hours.

Domestic Battery –
6100 block of Cypress Ave.
An officer arrested a 33-year-old Richmond man after he choked his wife during a verbal argument. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

January 6, 2013

Commercial Burglary –
225 El Cerrito Plaza
An officer arrested a 53-year-old transient man after he entered Trader Joe’s, concealed groceries, and fled without paying. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez County Jail.

Vehicle Theft –
2600 block of Tamalpais Ave.
An unknown suspect stole the victim’s white colored 1995 two door Honda Civic sometime between 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m..

Attempted Strongarm Robbery –
3200 block of Belmont Ave.
Two suspects waited in a dark alley on Belmont Ave. When the victim passed, they grabbed her purse and demanded her property. The victim fought back, causing the purse strap to break. The victim retained control of her purse and the suspects fled on foot towards Central Park. TOO: 6:55 p.m.  

Domestic Battery –
5300 block of Cypress Ave.
A suspect kicked his ex-wife during an argument. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. TOO: 7:15 p.m..

Warrant Arrest –
Cutting Blvd. / I-80.
An officer conducted a traffic stop and subsequently arrested a 52-year-old Richmond man for an outstanding felony warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Domestic Battery –
7400 block of Seaview Pl.
An officer arrested a 23-year-old El Cerrito woman after she struck her boyfriend in the face during an argument. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
