Teen Who Was Shot on BART Path in Surgery

One of the two teens shot Wednesday afternoon on the BART path near Fairmont Elementary School in El Cerrito was in surgery last night at a local hospital, according to police.

Police said that one of the two teen males shot by two other young males on the BART path in El Cerrito Wednesday was in surgery last night, according to Bay City News Service.

One of the two victims was seriously injured in the shooting just before 2 p.m. on the path, which is also known at the Ohlone Greenway, police told Patch. The other teen suffered injuries that appeared to be superficial, according to El Cerrito police Capt. Michael Regan.

The two shooters, described by police as young African-American males in black hooded sweatshirts, fled on feet eastbound on Stockton Avenue, police said. The shooting occurred about 100 yards south of Stockton on the path, police said.

Police are continuing their search for the shooters. Anyone with information is asked to contact El Cerrito police at 510-237-3233.

Both victims are believed to be high school students, though not from El Cerrito High School, according to Regan.

Fairmont school was locked down for 30 minutes and the high school for little over an hour until police were confident that the assailants were no longer in the area.
